What is the importance of history? Everyone has their own mood of history, and in the account book, The Jungle; Sinclair shares his idea of history in 1906. This is during the term that many immigrants were migrating to America for a better life of freedom. These immigrants chiefly consisting of these ethnic groups: German, British, Irish, Scandinavian, other Central European, Italian, Eastern European, and other join Western European, summiting the population growth in America. The book is some a Lithuanian immigrant that struggles with his family, in America. He and his family are nevertheless making it by, because of the greedy bosses, con men, and fluff politicians that he encounters.
This book is a documentary novel of a mans life working in the harsh conditions of food return in a meatpacking factory. The dream of the American immigrant was bare(a): America, the great land of capitalist economy, with its plentiful opportunities, would provide them with a true job and a home to raise their family in. The work would be easy, and life would be better than it had ever been in their indispensable land.



However, the American dream proved for many immigrants, including Jurgis Rudkus in Upton Sinclairs The Jungle, to be nothing more than packed cities, tedious, low-paying jobs, and death. To Upton Sinclair, the cause of all societys ills was capitalism and the remedy was socialism. Sinclair uses specific details, symbolism, and the organization of the novel to expose the corrupt capitalism that hides behind the American dream, allowing him in the end to judge to shamelessly promote his socialist views.
Details presented by Sinclair through and through both the mind of the characters and the facts of the novel present Sinclairs anti-capitalist message.
