Such countries are usually more developed particularly within the infrastructure and the technology level. This makes such countries to be in a position to fully support themselves even during the times of crisis for instance when there is reduced rain and when the water levels have reduced. 

During such times, these countries can use their available technology to produce adequate food that is sufficient to cater for the whole population in the country. Under such circumstances, food is produced within very short duration of time. This development strategy therefore makes these countries to be well set in terms of disaster preparedness and other natural calamities which can greatly affect the life of the citizens. On the other hand, the less developed countries cannot afford to maintain this level of technology.

This is the major reason that makes the poor countries to continue relying on the more developed countries especially during recession periods.
