Amish Culture
The Amish society is an American Protestant group descending from European Anabaptists who sought freedom from persecution in the 1730s. The Amish are a primarily self reliant community of horticulturalists.  The Amish live their lives based on a literal version of the Bible and a set of unwritten rules called the Amish Ordnung, which prescribes behavior, appearance and different aspects of the Amish culture (Nowak and Laird, 2010). Their reliance on themselves and their efforts to preserve their culture personnel the Amish to shun the culture of the outside world.
The Amish recognize three primitive stages of childhood. The little people, the scholars and the young people are the titles given to the stages of childhood. Children under school age are considered the little people. The scholars are calculated as those that are 15 years of age or older and who attend social events and activities before marriage. The Amish believe acquaintance comes with age and that its that, rather than education level, that determines your social power.
Amish children only when attend school until the eighth var.. In 1972, the U.S. Supreme tourist court exempted them from state compulsory attendance beyond the eighth grade based on religious precepts (Fischetti 1997).



The Amish teach their children in their have one-room schoolhouses. Inside these schoolhouses, Amish children study reading, writing, English, mathematics, geography, history, German, music, art and the Bible. After completion of their eighth grade year of school, the children continue their education outside the classroom in real Amish-world situations.
Most Amish are married among their 22nd and 25th birthdays. The Amish men take on the duty of finding a mate. The selection of possible wives is limited alone extends into other Amish communities.
