In todays society the driving force behind Americans is dreams. Every private has a dream and with every dream there atomic number 18 struggles to accomplish them. The poem A Dream Deferred was Langton Hughes view on what the African American dream was in the late 1950s. African Americans who fought for equal rights, and had to put their dreams aside until society could accept them for who they were. African Americans in the 1950s were considered to be a minority and a nuisance. So their dreams were non easily obtained. And Langston huges expressed their struggle and frustration about not being able to pursue and fulfill their dreams using metaphors. The graduation line of the poem sets the tone of the poem. It makes the reader wonder what happens to a dream that we have put on the back burner for a long period of time. In his case the dream for African Americans to have equal rights and for the entire race and to achieve what they penury as an individuals. The poem goes on to describe what happens when the dream has been postponed for too long.
The speaker in this poem hints towards the delayed dream having modify effects.
The second line in the poem asks Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun the metaphor makes us think about the changes that whitethorn take place if the dream has been left alone too long and if the dream is expense perusing.
